Next Monday is "Blue Monday" again. The third Monday of the year was once declared the gloomiest day of the year by British psychologist Cliff Arnall. The term is derived from the English term "feeling blue," or feeling "gloomy or dejected.
Thanks to failed resolutions, dark days and vacations still outstanding, people are said to feel most dejected on this day. Although the actual effect of this day has never been proven, the day has since become a good means of calling attention to depression.
Symptoms of depression
Everyone suffers from negative feelings from time to time, and usually they go away on their own. In the case of depression, it persists for a period of two weeks or longer. Depression usually involves symptoms such as loss of interest, fatigue, loneliness and sometimes thoughts of death in addition to a gloomy mood.
