This form of treatment assumes that your thoughts influence your feelings and behavior. During cognitive behavioral therapy, you work with a therapist on situations you encounter. With PTSD, this often takes the form of Imaginary Exposure (IE). In such a session you think back to the traumatic memory in a safe setting. Together with the therapist, you then work with the patterns, coping mechanisms and anxious thoughts that arise from this and get a better grip on your own thoughts, feelings and behavior.
