With a combination of several factors from this list, your patient is probably eligible for inpatient treatment. If in doubt, you can still refer the patient to our triage center for proper indication. For example, there are:
- severe depression, anxiety, trauma, somatic symptom disorder, personality disorder, eating disorder and or addiction
- more than one psychiatric diagnosis (comorbidity)
- additional somatic problems
- social, psychological or physical dysfunction
- getting stuck in multiple areas of life
- long-term or recurrent symptoms
- previous (outpatient) treatments with insufficient results
- overburdened support system or untenable home situation
- need for a treatment environment that provides structure and protection
- a diagnostic question that can only be explored in the inpatient setting
- need to be clinically on medication or to taper off medication
A program at U-center is intensive and demands a lot from the client. The treatment can be very confronting and evoke strong emotions. It requires a certain capacity to cope with this intensive program. That is why we like to make a careful assessment together whether this capacity is sufficient. Of course you can always call us for questions and advice. After all, each person is different and has an individual story that we like to listen to. Motivation for treatment is also always of great importance.
At U-center, we treat adults 18 and older. For children and adolescents a different treatment offer is desirable. There is no upper age limit. As long as you can follow the program cognitively and in terms of your mobility, you can benefit greatly.
U-center tries to make everyone's stay as pleasant as possible, but we are not a nursing home or hospital. If you are bound to daily intensive physical nursing or hospital visits, unfortunately, we cannot provide you with the right help. If, in combination with anorexia nervosa, you are severely underweight (BMI below 17) and need to be tube fed, a specialized facility for that purpose is more appropriate.
Treatment may be in the Dutch language or in English in the international teams. Adequate command of this is therefore necessary.
U-center is an "open" clinic and does not have a closed ward. When there is confusion or psychosis, U-center may not be able to provide sufficient protection and safety. In cases of severe crisis sensitivity, it is often better to stabilize first in another setting. With some conditions, U-center is less suitable because a longer treatment time will be needed, for example, a chronic psychotic syndrome (schizophrenia) or bipolar disorder. Some people are less able to function in groups, for example because of certain personality disorders or aggression problems. Some addictions, such as GHB, lend themselves less to U-center's treatment setting.
It is not desirable if after the stay at U-center, you have no place to return to. Also, ongoing litigation or ongoing labor disputes can hinder a proper focus on treatment. If there is a court order (RM) you cannot come to us.
