Perhaps your patient has already had a long search for a good treatment for his/her problems. A referral to U-center can be a godsend, but first of course you want to know if U-center is the possible solution. We are happy to inform you which patients can benefit from our program and how you can refer them.
Is U-center right for your patient?
Do you suspect your patient is suffering from severe mental illness or addiction? Is outpatient treatment not (no longer) intensive and effective enough? Then go through our following checklist to investigate whether your patient qualifies for inpatient treatment. There must be at least one or more DSM-5 diagnoses. Our program is suitable for people who have a strong interest in getting better and are willing to work hard to do so. We treat patients as young as 18 years old. We pay close attention to work resumption, a meaningful day activity and reintegration into society. The program can also be offered in full English in our international clinic. U-center has a contract with many health insurance companies, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
Simple referral to U-center
Our communication center is available by phone every weekday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for referrers and for potential clients. Psychologists also work in the communication center. They think with you, provide information and can advise both you and your client. They also coordinate triage and indication for admission together with a practitioner.
A step-by-step approach
If you would like to refer a patient, please discuss this together first. The patient himself must take the first step to register with us. This can be done by phone or online via this website. We then initiate the registration procedure, in which there is plenty of room for questions and explanation of the registration process. There is also the possibility to follow a webinar beforehand.
Research shows that our treatment is extremely effective. Over 75% of our clients maintain their recovery or even improve further during the year after treatment is completed.
To be eligible for treatment and reimbursement by health insurance, an official referral letter from the general practitioner (or medical specialist/psychiatrist) is required. Are you a general practitioner yourself? Then the referral can be submitted safely and completely via healthcare domain.
For a homemade referral, it is important to meet the following requirements of health insurance companies. Always include:
- Referral to clinical SGGZ
- Refer specifically to U-center
(Suspected) DSM-5 diagnosis(s)
- Your reason for referral (not at patient's request)
- Your AGB code
- Your signature

In order to get a good picture of the problem, we would like to receive as much information as possible about previous treatment and from the GP journal. This can be a concluding report or an interim evaluation. We would like to read back which complaints and requests for help the patient reported, which interventions were applied and what the effect of these was. If there is a (presumed) diagnosis, please also mention this. If you are or have been a therapist yourself, you can send this report. Otherwise, the client should request previous letters himself from his practitioner, but that often takes a lot of time. If this information does not reveal any clear contraindications, the patient will have to fill out a number of digital questionnaires.
Once all the information is available, we take another look with an expert to see if treatment may be appropriate. If so, we invite the patient for an online indication interview.
Patients will also be asked to fill out some questionnaires online. Answering the questions will take several hours. Through these questionnaires we will get a good picture of the symptoms.
Immediately after the interview it is confirmed whether there is actually an indication for admission and on which date this will be. Admission usually takes place 2 weeks after the indication interview, at all times well within The Tree Standard (6 weeks).
Between the indication day and the admission date, the patient will prepare for admission to U-center through an online welcome module in Minddistrict. The patient also uses this secure online treatment environment during the inpatient and (when indicated) outpatient program to video call and work on online interventions. In addition, the client reflects and works in a personal diary.
We would like to keep you informed about the progress of the treatment process. If you wish, we will inform you of the outcome of the assessment interview and the date of admission. At the end of the treatment process the primary care provider will send a concluding letter with information about the treatment. Should there be any questions before the referral or during the process, we will be happy to help you at any time.
